Top Stories From Last Week

A Salem Lakes man is in custody facing ten felony counts of possession of child pornography after a complex, year-long investigation.

Julio Nieto-Gutierrez, 45, was arrested by the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office on November 12th.

The investigation began in October 2024 when the Kenosha Police Department received cyber tips about illicit materials being distributed on platforms like WhatsApp and Snapchat.

The case was later transferred to the Sheriff’s Office when it was discovered Nieto-Gutierrez had moved.

During the probe, detectives found he also had an active felony warrant from Arizona and was in the country illegally.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has since placed a detainer on him.

Sheriff David Zoerner highlighted his office's commitment to protecting children and working with federal partners.

Nieto-Gutierrez is currently being held at the Kenosha County Jail.

The 2025 outdoor golf season has officially concluded across Kenosha County.

Both Brighton Dale Links and Petrifying Springs Golf Course wrapped up play for the year on November 15.

It was another banner year for local golf, with the number of rounds played coming just 500 short of breaking the all-time record set in 2024.

Golf Director Jim Wallace expressed his gratitude to the community for another successful season.

While the greens are now closed, dedicated golfers can keep their skills sharp this winter.

The advanced indoor golf simulators at Brighton Dale are now fully operational and available for booking through the pro shop.

This transition marks the official shift from outdoor fairways to indoor practice for the local golf community until spring returns.

Located right off I-94 at 12304 75th Street, this family-owned favorite has served generations of customers and has become an unofficial “Welcome to Wisconsin” destination for visitors coming up from Illinois and beyond.

Inside, you’ll find a warm, welcoming atmosphere with a spacious dining area, a full bar, and a cheese shop stocked with local favorites.

The menu is large and full of variety, but what keeps people coming back are the daily specials that combine hearty comfort with good value.

From Meatloaf Monday and Tipsy Tuesday to Wurst Wednesday ($1 off any brat) and Taco Thursday, there’s always something new to try. Fridays bring a Wisconsin classic with the Fish Fry, and weekends feature their hand-carved Prime Rib Dinner, a favorite for families and date nights alike.

Beyond the food, The Brat Stop often hosts live music, special events, Packer parties, and is known for being a gathering place during local celebrations and holidays.

They also offer Happy Hour Monday through Friday from 3–7 p.m. (and all day Wednesday), making it an easy choice for after-work drinks or a casual meal.

For readers looking to save, there is currently a 20% off Cheese Shop coupon (restrictions apply) available through select partners — so be sure to ask when you stop in.

A new vision for patient care has arrived in Downtown Kenosha.

Enlightened Eye Care, a new clinic led by Dr. Graham Keith, officially opened its doors this week with a ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by the Kenosha Area Chamber of Commerce.

The practice aims to challenge the conventional, high-volume model of eye care.

Dr. Keith emphasized a commitment to a more personal and thorough patient experience, where appointments are unhurried and meticulously tailored to individual needs.

The clinic’s core philosophy is that patients shouldn't feel rushed or unheard.

This new local business adds a specialized medical service to the heart of the community, offering residents a healthcare choice that prioritizes quality and satisfaction in our growing downtown area.

Recipe Of The Week

November is chilly here, football season is in full swing, and Wisconsinites love comfort foods. Few dishes are more iconic this time of year than:

🧀 Wisconsin Beer Cheese Soup

(With optional bratwurst for extra Wisconsin flair)

⭐ Why it’s popular in November

  • It’s warm, hearty, perfect for cold weather

  • Served at many Wisconsin supper clubs and taverns

  • Fits football season, fall gatherings, and tailgates

  • Easy to make in one pot

🍲 Recipe: Cozy Wisconsin Beer Cheese Soup

Servings: 4–6
Prep Time: 10 min
Cook Time: 25 min

Ingredients

  • 4 Tbsp butter

  • 1 medium onion, finely diced

  • 2 celery stalks, diced

  • 2 carrots, diced

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1/4 cup flour

  • 2 cups chicken broth

  • 1 cup beer (lager or ale works best—New Glarus Spotted Cow is perfect)

  • 2 cups whole milk or half-and-half

  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar (Wisconsin cheddar is a must!)

  • 1 tsp dry mustard

  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika

  • Salt & pepper to taste

  • Optional: sliced cooked bratwurst, green onions, pretzels for dipping

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, melt butter over medium heat.

  2. Add onion, celery, and carrots. Sauté 5–7 minutes until softened.

  3. Stir in garlic and cook 1 more minute.

  4. Sprinkle flour over the veggies and stir to form a paste. Cook for 1 minute.

  5. Slowly whisk in chicken broth, then beer.

  6. Add milk/half-and-half and bring to a gentle simmer.

  7. Reduce heat to low. Stir in cheddar a handful at a time until fully melted.

  8. Add dry mustard, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.

  9. Optional: Add sliced bratwurst for a true Wisconsin twist.

  10. Serve with pretzels, crusty bread, or more bratwurst.

🧀 Serving Tip

Top with shredded cheddar and green onions. Serve with warm soft pretzels—just like many Wisconsin pubs do.
