A tragic early-morning crash in rural Kenosha County left six horses dead after they wandered onto a roadway and were struck by a pickup truck earlier this week.

According to authorities, the collision happened on County Highway WG near County Highway MB when a pickup truck traveling through the area encountered the loose animals in the roadway.

The driver, a 67-year-old man from Antioch, Illinois, was on his way to work at the time of the crash. He was not injured, though the vehicle sustained significant damage.

Investigators say the horses had escaped from a nearby fenced area before the crash occurred. The incident is a reminder of how quickly dangerous conditions can develop on rural roads, especially during low-visibility hours.

Law enforcement officials urge both drivers and livestock owners to remain vigilant.

Drivers are encouraged to slow down in rural areas, particularly at night or in the early morning hours, while animal owners are reminded to regularly inspect fencing and enclosures to prevent animals from getting loose.

The crash remains under investigation, and officials did not indicate whether citations would be issued.
