Snowmobile Alliance Urges Riders to Stay Off Kenosha Trails

Despite the fresh snowfall across Southeast Wisconsin, snowmobile enthusiasts in Kenosha County are being told not to ride yet.
According to the Kenosha County Snowmobile Alliance, the county’s trail system remains officially closed, and anyone riding right now could cause long-term damage to the routes — or risk fines.
Trail coordinators say that while the recent storm delivered a good layer of snow, it’s not enough for safe grooming, and the ground beneath is still too soft.
Riding too early can tear up farmland, expose rocks, damage the trail base, and jeopardize land agreements with local property owners who generously allow clubs to cross their land.
Officials stressed that premature riding is one of the main reasons property owners revoke trail access, which can lead to permanent closures.
They are asking riders to wait until trails are clearly marked as open through the county’s official channels.
Local snowmobile clubs are currently inspecting conditions, and grooming will begin once there is a solid, safe base. Trail status updates will be posted on county snowmobile maps, club websites, and official social media pages.
For now, the message is simple:
“Please don’t ride yet. The trails are still closed — even if they look snow-covered.”
Staying off the trails now helps ensure the season can fully open once conditions allow safe, responsible riding.
