Feds Conduct Major Human Trafficking Operation in Kenosha, Arresting 20

The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office addresses the multi-agency federal action, confirming local law enforcement was not involved in the sensitive investigation but remains in close contact with federal partners.

A sweeping federal human trafficking enforcement operation originating from the Chicago area culminated in twenty arrests across Kenosha and Illinois on November 19th.

The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that teams from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) conducted the mission, even staging parts of it from the Kenosha Public Safety Building.

However, in a move that highlights the sensitive nature of such investigations, both the Sheriff's Office and the Kenosha Police Department were not asked to participate in the enforcement phase.

This is a standard protocol for high-stakes federal missions, designed to protect the integrity of the investigation and ensure the safety of agents and the public.

The element of surprise is often a critical component of success.

Sheriff David Zoerner acknowledged the importance of federal confidentiality while also emphasizing his preference for open communication.

“I always appreciate a heads-up when major federal activity takes place in our community,” Zoerner stated, underscoring that it helps his office manage local concerns and keep residents informed.

He affirmed his strong working relationship with federal partners and his commitment to continued cooperation.

In the wake of the operation, the Sheriff's Office also moved to quash online misinformation, cautioning residents against “reckless and inaccurate claims” circulating on social media that could jeopardize ongoing federal work.

Officials stressed that such speculation can endanger both officers and civilians.

Adding another layer to the situation, officials clarified that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was not involved in the initial operation.

However, ICE later contacted the Sheriff's Office to confirm that all undocumented individuals arrested in connection with the human trafficking bust have since been deported.

The multi-agency action serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing fight against human trafficking networks that often operate across state lines, requiring coordinated efforts from national security agencies.

Sheriff Zoerner reassured the public, stating, “We will continue working closely with every law-enforcement partner—local, state, and federal—to protect our residents.”
